Use this article to understand how to submit a brokerage or domain change request and what steps to take before and after the change is processed.
How to Submit a Change Request
All brokerage and domain change requests must be submitted to our MLS Team here. Make sure to select the correct request type (Brokerage Change Request or Domain Change Request). You are not able to make these changes on your own through the account portal.
To submit a request:
- Navigate to the Help Center here.
- To update the Company Name in your Account: Select "Brokerage Change Request". Complete the required fields, and include relevant details in the Description box.
- To update the Website Address and/or Subdomain in your Account: Select "Domain Change Request". Complete the required fields, and include relevant details in the Description box.
- Submit the form.
- Once the form is submitted, you will receive confirmation via email.
What to Expect After Submitting
Once your email is received, an MLS Coordinator will review the request and respond with next steps. Processing time varies based on whether the MLS board requires new paperwork.
- Brokerage changes: Some MLS boards require an updated agreement; others only need a direct notification to the board from our MLS Team.
- Domain changes: Some MLS boards require an updated agreement; others only need a direct notification to the board from our MLS Team.
- Processing time: If paperwork is involved, expect a similar timeline to your original approval. Sign and submit the agreement as soon as possible to allow for a smooth transition.
- Multiple MLS data feeds: Approval is required from ALL boards before any change can be made.
Once approval is received, the IDX Broker team will make the change on our end and notify you.
Before and After a Brokerage Change
Step 1: Verify Featured Agent IDs
During a brokerage change, the new Office ID is applied to your account. After this is done, you must verify that the correct agents are selected.
- Go to Account > Featured IDs.
- Confirm that you and any other agents who should be featured are selected in the list.
- Go to Listings > Active.
- Verify that your current active listings from the new brokerage and selected agents are displaying correctly.
Note: If no agents appear, the wrong agents are shown, or agents are missing from the list, contact the IDX Broker support team for help correcting your account.
Step 2: Update Multi-User Agent Accounts (If Applicable)
If your account has multiple agent users, each one must be linked to the correct MLS Agent ID so their contact information and bio pages display properly.
- Go to Account > Users > Agents.
- Click Edit Agent for each user.
- Select the MLS tab.
- Choose the correct MLS Agent ID from the dropdown for each MLS this agent belongs to.
- Click Save.
- Repeat for all agent user accounts.
Before and After a Domain Change
Important: When a domain is updated in your IDX Broker account, all IDX page and widget links change automatically. You must update your website before or immediately after the change is processed.
Step 1: Update Wrappers
Wrapper pages replicate your website design on IDX pages. These must be updated to point to the new domain.
- Go to Design > Website > Wrappers.
- Update the Global Wrapper URL to a valid wrapper page on the new site.
- Check the Category and Page level tabs for any additional wrappers that need updating.
Guidance by scenario:
- New website: Update wrappers so IDX pages reflect the new site design, not the old one. See the guide on creating a new wrapper. WordPress users can use the IDX Broker WordPress plugin to generate a wrapper automatically. Review WordPress wrappers for more information.
-
Same website, new domain: Update only the domain portion of the wrapper URL.
Example: Update https://olddomain.com/idx-wrapper/search to https://newdomain.com/idx-wrapper/search
Step 2: Update or Add a Custom Subdomain (CNAME Record)
A custom subdomain ensures that search engines (Google, Bing, etc.) credit your domain as the content author for your IDX pages, not IDX Broker’s domain. This protects your SEO.
- If you are using a custom subdomain, add a CNAME record with the new domain to keep IDX page masking active.
-
If you do not have a custom subdomain configured, set one up now. See the linked guides below for configuration instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to complete new paperwork for a brokerage change?
Not always. Requirements vary by MLS board. Email the MLS Coordinators with your change details and they will reply with the correct instructions for your board.
Do I need to complete new paperwork for a domain change?
Usually not. Most domain changes only require the MLS Coordinator to confirm with the MLS via email. Some boards grant auto-approval.
Are all MLS boards the same?
No. Each board has its own process and requirements, which is why we recommend contacting the MLS Coordinators early and asking questions before initiating changes.
What if my account has multiple MLS data feeds?
All boards associated with your account must approve the change before it can be processed.
